Summer programs for actors

A member advises parents if your child does a competitive theatre summer program, go in with no expectations.  A good experience can give your child a boost when applying, but if they decide that is the only program for them and they aren’t accepted, it can be devastating.  When making a decision, whether it’s for a musical theatre program at a university or a summer camp, research it thoroughly.  Ask on the forum if anyone has prior experience with the program or the camp.  Look for positives and negatives, so you can weigh the pros and cons.

This excellent discussion provides useful information for parents on college summer programs.  While looking into programs, be aware that not all offer your child the same degree of privacy.  Child safety, as well as education and theatre performing opportunities, should all be considerations.
