Should your child change appearance for a job?

It depends on the job. We’ve asked about it regarding changing one’s type, but what about hair color or length?  This comes up occasionally, as a child is asked to shave all their hair for a role as a cancer patient or to cut it short to fit the character. For a big job, a parent and child may agree, but if the child’s hair length is part of who they are and why they are being cast, maybe there is another solution. A wig or skull cap might be an option. Another is turning down a role.

Hair color can be changed but should be returned to its original color at production’s expense.  Keep in mind, it may not be exactly the same color, texture, or sheen after being colored and stripped or redyed.  Should you do it or should you say “No?” Join the discussion.
