Is it time to leave SAG-AFTRA?

Joining the union is a highlight of a young actor’s career.  SAG-AFTRA membership gives an actor access to the best jobs and many protections.  Since the average child actor’s career is typically five years or less, the time could come when your child is no longer working and is spending more on dues than it’s worth.  Is it wise to leave the union?  Is there a right way to do so?
