“Spec” Projects

Spec projects are just what they sound like–filmed on speculation, with the hope of being sold.  A Spec commercial is made by an outsider, not bought and paid for by the advertiser.  It may never see the light of day, and actors may never get paid.  So, is there a reason to do them?  Can they at least land on the resume?  Maybe not.
